Integrated Technical Inventory
NETinv CMDB
NETinv technical inventory system can easily integrate and manage the technical inventory of the telecommunication networks and IT systems for the telecommunication service providers and enterprises. The accurate inventory is essential for efficiently performing the operational tasks: troubleshooting, provisioning, planning and design, capacity and resource management.
Beyond giving a solution for the above mentioned processes NETinv has a very flexible data schema enabling the modeling of new product families and new technologies in the system. New type of equipments in the network can easily and quickly be integrated into the inventory avoiding a long lasting and expensive software developing process that is typical for technical inventory systems with fix data schema.
System architect of NETinv system
Supported functions
The system was designed to fulfill the below functions:
Resource management: managing the technical inventory of the sites, the physical equipments and the logical connections
Planning resources: managing the technical inventory of the currently not yet existing, planned resources
Resource allocation: assign the planned and already existing resources in the network to the logical connections and functions
Optimization of resources: reporting the bottlenecks and free capacities
The below operational processes are supported:
Troubleshooting: the inventory provides support in the process of troubleshooting in different ways:
- Appointing the exact location of the defective equipment (On which site can it be found?)
- Defining the necessary data both to enter (to access) the site and the contact person
- Determining the logical connections affected by the fault (What are the critical systems affected by the fault?)
Change management
- Following the life cycle of the equipments (When did the given equipment get into the network and when did it get out?)
- Where can the equipment of a given serial number or type be found in the network?
Capacity management
- Determining the free capacities for temporary bypass and replacements
- Allocating the free capacities for network design
Main features
1. Dynamic attributes
NETinv supports the entry of new attributes besides the built in attributes, and it can publish them on the GUI. The newly created attributes are fully equivalent to the built in ones. The dynamic attributes allow of the quick and easy customization of GUI without modifying the software code.
2. Templates
In NETinv system predefined templates for equipment, card or path record definition can be created. Templates contain standardized configurations for Equipment or Path, including card, port and circuit configurations while this method minimizes the manual tasks of operators. Templates can be configured through the GUI like the standard objects.
3. Web based GUI
Clean and ergonomic web based GUI assures the easy administration of the platform. The GUI is based on the emerging AJAX technology that enables creating web based GUIs with rich client features and without the disadvantages of the current web technologies. The GUI has a fine-grained multi-level role-based authorization system. Operator authentication and authorization can be configured through an LDAP server.
4. Software and hardware environment
The hardware and software environment of the client and the server can be found on the right side.
Client Hardware and Software Environment:
Microsoft Windows XP SP2/Vista SP1
Microsoft Internet Explorer 7
Video card and monitor: more than 1024*7608 16bit colors
Hardware: min. 512 MB RAM and Intel P4 1Ghz CPU or much, keyboard and mouse
Server Hardware and Software Environment:
Microsoft Windows 2003 R2 Server / Red Hat 5.0 ES / Solaris 10
Bea JRockIt JDK 6.0
JBoss 4.0.5:
- Min. 1 GB Java heap size
Oracle 9i R2 or 10g R2 Standard Edition
- Table space size is direct proportion of network dimension
- min. 1GB SGA
